Modern Interior Design for Atherton Residence

This residence, designed in collaboration with the Steinberg Group, takes its shape from the arc of the cul-de-sac upon which it rests. The primary design element is a 30 ft high, 150 ft long wall of Mariah stone which runs from the front entry through the interior to the pool house at the rear. This wall separates the private interior spaces of the master bedroom, library and study to the north, while all other public spaces are to the south.

The color palate takes its cues from the abundance of “heritage” oak trees on the property and regional traditions of organic design. The material palate includes slate, cedar siding stained to recall the finish and color of the oak trees, bead-blasted zinc is used on the bridge and fireplaces, reflecting the zinc roof. One of the unusual features of the lighting design is the uplights which run the entire length of the stone wall to emphasize its texture.
